Legend of the Void Chapter 2 – State of the Game 4/29/2012

Hey just wanted to give everyone a quick update on the current status of things. I’m coming off of a nasty case of viral pharyngitis this past week so it was unquestionably my least productive week in a long time. This puts me behind a little bit but I’m going to do my best to catch up ASAP.

First Beta This Week

Had it not been for my nasty cold last week it would be out already but I’m going to make it my #1 priority to get the first beta out sometime this week. Since it’s the first I’m going to keep the number of players fairly limited, mainly to those who have helped me out the most and the few that have donated. It will be 100% combat oriented with the main focus being a test on early balance. It will also be the first time anyone outside of the development team sees the awesome new art in action! I’ll be sure to release some public screenshots along with the demo so everyone can see the new look :)

Art Progress

I haven’t heard from William (Jonas Planck) in about a week so I believe he may be going through finals for school now. Leave a comment wishing him good luck and a speedy return to finishing the art for Legend of the Void 2! Speaking of which, we’re like 99% done with the combat art which is approximately 90% of the art in the game. The top down/adventure art should finish up much quicker and then it’s just some slick cut-scenes and a little GUI work. He deserves a real round of applause, Legend of the Void 2 is shaping up to be a 10 in the graphics department and makes Legend of the Void Chapter 1 look like a 4.

Sorry for development lasting more than “a couple months” for a Legend of the Void sequel, my original plan was to release Chapter 2 as a slightly upgraded Ch1 with a basic continuation of the story, but as you can see it’s really blossoming into a massively improved game and hopefully a better direction for the series.

so am i a beta tester?

      • devon July 18, 2012 at 7:47 pm #

im not saying its easy to make a game on the internet but you have been talking about lotv2 will be coming soon for almost a year if ur going to put forth so much effort to make it good make it real game for xbox360 or something put all the chapters in one awsome game your spending way to much time on one chapter of a game on the internet this is just one chapter your making at the moment and i bet it will only take a hour to beat .

        • Blake July 19, 2012 at 12:19 am #

First of all, it’s been half a year. Second, I’m just one person, do you know how many people and what kind of investment it takes to get onto xbox? Clearly not by your ignorant comment. And lastly, nice assumption. When LOTV2 comes out play it for an hour and see how far into the game you are, then send me a donation for whatever amount you’re willing to “bet”…

      • devon July 18, 2012 at 7:53 pm #

and one more thing ive noticed all the comments posted are positve and only point out its awsome thats not right dude quit deleting the ones you dont want posted i want to see what people have to say and i also forgot to mention your just working on the beta right now what about the actual game are u gonna spend another year making the actual game?

        • Blake July 19, 2012 at 12:23 am #

This is my personal page, do you think people with negative comments are going to come all the way here to post them? The only comments I’ve deleted are spam and beyond broken english/cursing. The proof? Your comments.

And “beta” just means testing versions of the game. When the beta is done, the game is released.

So chill out and wait for the game to be released like everyone else, buddy. And don’t forget to put your money where your mouth is regarding your “bet” of an hour of playtime…

Blake i personally think you should take as long as needed im a fan of the first game and from what ive read its going to be awesome why put out a game if its not the best you can make it go for gold man

    • MasterDoom (LOTV Forum Member) May 1, 2012 at 2:42 pm #

      @ryan – I agree! :-)

When Blake released Legend of the Void – Chapter 1 on Kongregate (See LINK) he followed up with very quick updates based upon feedback from the Players (one of the reasons I fell in love with the game).

      LINK: http://www.kongregate.com/games/violatorgames/legend-of-the-void

For Legend of the Void – Chapter 2, Blake is taking his time so that when it if finally released publicly he won’t need to do too much updates (though some may/will be required).

I too would like a quality top-ten product that won’t require much tweaking when Chapter 2 is released. B-)

Blake – KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK and pass on my thanks to you whole “design team”. :-)

How does one become a beta tester?

  19. _______ August 4, 2012 at 6:04 pm #

First one was too short, and not enough customization… weapons were a little boring. If the graphics are going to be as good as you say then I may need to take a break from Skyrim haha. Combat animations seemed a little weak, as well. It was a great game, nonetheless. Take your time: Performance Over Impatience.
